What You'll Learn
- Recall ×3, ×4, and ×6 facts through 12
- Use decomposition: ×4 = ×2 ×2, ×6 = ×3 ×2
- Apply skip-counting patterns for fluency
Explanation
×4 is double-double: 6 × 4 = 6 × 2 × 2 = 12 × 2 = 24. Two doublings in sequence.
×3 is "add the number three times" or skip-count by 3s: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24.
×6 combines ×3 and ×2: 7 × 6 = 7 × 3 × 2 = 21 × 2 = 42. Or think ×5 + ×1: 7×5=35, +7=42.
The ×6 table alternates even-odd in the ones place: 6, 2, 8, 4, 0, 6, 2, 8…
Pro Tips
- • For ×4, always double twice — it is more reliable than skip-counting for large numbers.
- • For ×6, use "×5 plus one more group" as a shortcut.
- • Practice one table per day rather than all three at once.
